JAMMU, Aug 5: In a major disclosure, Director General of Police (DGP) today said that over 300 militants are waiting across the border in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) to infiltrate in Kashmir.
Khoda was talking with reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
He said that militants are awaiting for the opportunity to enter Jammu and Kashmir and elaborate measures are being taken by security forces to ensure they don’t enter the state.
He said that as per the intelligence reports there are directions to them to infiltrate in view of the closure of passes, which would happen after a month or two.
Referring to the situation in Kashmir, he said, "One should not think that militancy is over."
DGP said that though there is a decrease of 70 per cent in militancy related incidents in Jammu region as well as decrease in the number of operating militants, yet efforts are being made from across the border and instructions are being given to the militants to engineer infiltrations.
Not missing the opportunity to acknowledge the alertness on the border resulting into elimination of several militants, DGP said, "There have been several attempts of infiltration along the border in Kashmir and these are aimed to push more and more militants to this side before passes get closed in coming winters."
However, replying to a query about the number of ultras that have sneaked into the Indian side this year, DGP said, "This can never be confirmed. Our endeavor is if any one sneaks-in, he should be neutralized."
He said the security forces have continued their anti-militancy operations especially in north Kashmir and they have achieved major successes.
Khoda said at a time when militancy was going down, normal crime involving the use of arms has shown an upward trend.
“There is always an apprehension of recycling of surrendered militants,” the DGP said. “These people are often utilized by people for personal interests. The government is planning to rehabilitate such persons where the scheme is to give them vocational training.”
On the contradicting figures regarding the infiltration of militants, DGP said there are various agencies collecting the information regarding it. “Everybody has its own inputs and thus they assess the situation,” Khoda said.
