JAMMU, July 9: District administration has ordered that no cultural, political event should be held here in the city without permission of the district administration. As per an order issued by Jammu District Magistrate (DM) Sanjeev Verma, no event involving sizeable gathering, whether cultural or political, should be held without the permission of the authorities.
Sources said that this decision has been taken keeping in view the security of the people and also to prevent traffic jams, as number of organisations organise function in the parks, roadsides and banquet halls, having no parking space.
“No event should be held in any open space or in confined locations including auditorium, halls without prior permission of the district administration and if the norms are violated, action under law will be taken against them”, says the order.
When contacted Verma said that the order is not for personal functions but all the political and cultural functions should be registered so as to make their security and other facilities possible.
He said that suitable actions would be taken against the people organising functions without registration of their activities.
Verma said that the decision has been taken to avoid any untoward incident, violence, ruckus, traffic congestion, security implication and law and order problem.
Meanwhile there is mixed response from the people to the new direction.
Sanjay Thapa- a local said that administration has done a good job as orders like this would definitely lessen the traffic jam problem in the city.
“At times these so called social and political functions create lot of problem for the people and it like harassment for us”, he said.
Manisha Gupta cited that the functions during registered should be directed to make sizeable parties and the guest list should be curtailed.
It is important to note here that in recent past number of small organisations organise public events, without the permission of the administration which at times become a burden on the administration as they had to provide security and other help.
