JAMMU, Mar 30: It seems doctors in Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu have become heartless as they have now begun to treat patients as per their status. In one such case, an abandoned old lady was thrown outside the premises after three days without treatment.
Santosh Devi, a 65 year old woman had approached the hospital three days with severe symptoms, but her repeated pleas for treatment felt to deaf ears.
Speaking to TNI, Santosh said that about three days back she came to the emergency ward and despite repeated pleas none of the doctors attended to her. Thereafter she also made another emergency card on March 29, but same thing happened with this time also.
She also said that the hospital authorities took her and put her in a dirty room near back gate. She disclosed that the authorities instruct her not to come out of this room (Muje Subha Hospital Walo Ne Bahar Nikal Kar Is Gande Kamre Main Rakh Diya Aur Kaha Ki Is Kamre Se Bahar Nahi Nikalna).
Sources reveled that this is not the one case of hospital apathy, but there are many other such cases which are facing step-motherly attitude from the concern authorities. Besides this many NGO forward them helping hand for providing them food and shelter on humanitarian grounds, the authorities were not fulfilling some of the formalities, due to which the unattended patients are facing hardship.
He also said that the state government providing some funds for these types of people, still the administration is doing nothing for the welfare of them.
One of the employees of GMC on the condition of anonymity said that the Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Romesh Gupta directed us in the morning to take the lady out of emergency on paddler, as she is handicapped and not able to walk.
When this TNI correspondent approached the Personal Relation Officer (PRO) to Minister of Medical Education R S Chib, Vijay Khajuria, and told him the whole incident, Khajuria directed the MS Dr Romesh Gupta to take the patients back and give her the treatment whatever she required.
Khajuria said that he will also direct the concern Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of her resident area, and asked him to enquire about the family of the said woman.
Meanwhile, three security guards reached on the spot and took the lady to emergency for treatment. They said they are in directed by the MS to take the lady back to the emergency.
